Glory to the Earth, Glory to the Sky

A Hymn for All to Hear

I was walking across the lands of Holcombe Hill, rhythmically stepping through the puddles. A little hymn came to me in that connection with the land and movement. As I stopped in front of a flock of sheep, I sang a hymn of praise, with them as my audience. This act invoked a sense of uplift, sacredness, connection with nature, and a deep sense of divine communion. I’ve come to resonate more and more with the idea of the sacred act of song—a constant praise to the divine, present in all of creation.

I’ve always imagined myself as a wandering poetess of song, and most of the time, it’s through movement—walking—that these songs and ideas for songs emerge.

When the song comes through, I record them quickly as sketches on my iPhone. In the act of recording, I can already envision them fully orchestrated, which I hope to realize at some point when I have a larger collection—to witness them in both their simplicity and grandiosity.

As I continue this journey of song and discovery of Self, I trust that the melodies will unfold in their own time, as part of a larger tapestry of expression and connection. Each note, each word, a small offering to the divine, a part of a greater whole that I am only beginning to understand.
